When you receive a ticket for a traffic violation, what you do next is very important. If you pay off the ticket, you may face years of insurance increases and even the possibility of losing your license.  Your other option is to contact an attorney who will diligently work on your behalf to try to avoid these consequences.  The fine and court costs indicated on your ticket may seem insignificant but there can be great penalties.  For this reason, it is important to find a lawyer who can explain how speed laws operate in our state.  In many instances a lawyer will be able to handle your case without you being present in court and will attempt to prevent costly insurance increases, which by simply paying off the fines and court cost you could be subject to.

N.C. Safe Driver Incentive Plan (SDIP) Points and How They Affect Your License

The General Assembly enacted the North Carolina Safe Driver Incentive Plan (SDIP) to reward safe drivers with the lowest possible insurance rates. Drivers who are convicted of moving traffic violations and/or who cause accidents will be charged higher premiums in accordance with their driving records. SDIP points are charged as follows for convictions and at-fault accidents occurring during the Experience Period*.  This is why it is important to consult with a local attorney to discuss your options.  If you simply pay off your traffic ticket you may face years of insurance increases and even the possibility of losing your license.  The TETTERTON LAW FIRM offers free initial consultations, affordable fees and payment plans.  In many instances we are able to handle our clients cases with out them having to be present in court.
